Having spent most of my plus-20-year working career as a sub-editor for various South African magazines and newspapers, ranging from Reader’s Digest and True Love to the Daily Dispatch and Argus, I managed to sever the corporate umbilical cord eight years ago. The final cut came five years later, and though life gets edgy without a standard income, it’s also invigorating. I have written about a range of topics, from slaves and South Africans to baboons, drug addiction and herbal remedies. Articles have been published in Sunday Life, Mail and Guardian, Femina, Shape, Fair Lady, Argus, Good Taste, Move, Sawubona, Rootz, Daily Dispatch (all South Africa), Aquarius (Dubai) and the internet. A closet copywriter, I rate winning R30 000 for a ditty about Rama margarine as a great unsung moment, mainly because of the synchronicity which led to it. I have also edited for many magazines and newspapers and deadline-oriented news sites like www.joburg.org.za and www.southafrica.info. Currently living in India, I am getting used to expecting the unexpected, and, while editing books for www.chillibreeze.com, am also doing exciting voluntary work www.ethicaltraveler.org.
Looking for an experienced writer, editor and researcher who delivers well-rounded copy to tight deadlines with little fuss? E.mail smarshall@absamail.co.za. General enquiries welcome.

Greetings Word Marshall
Enjoyed your take on Cape Of Slaves.
What else have you written on Cape based angles?
Have recently started a special interest tour company for the culturally curious traveller and want to explore ways of telling local, authentic stories.
Namaste
